Decrease of greenhouse gas emissions
Company Slovenské elektrárne, a.s. has maintained from a long-term point of view a decreasing trend in the area of air pollution over the past years.
Minimizing the company's impact on the environment is mainly caused by preferential use of nuclear and hydroelectric power plants, decrease of electricity generation in conventional thermal power plants and gradual replacement of fossil fuels by biomass in thermal power plants. Most of electricity supplied from the operations of Slovenské elektrárne (more than 90%) was not burdened with emissions released to the air.
The decrease of carbon dioxide gas release by approximately 20k tons can be attributed mainly to the replacement of fossil fuels with wood chips – biomass in fluidized-bed boilers of Vojany Power Plant in total amount of 20 263 tons.
