Planned general overhaul of Mochovce Unit 1 completed
On Sunday, May 14, Slovenské elektrárne completed the general overhaul of Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 by synchronising the first turbine generator.
The overhaul included complete nuclear fuel unloading from the reactor, coupled with inspection of the reactor pressure vessel from inside and implementation of important investment projects, such as addition of 400 kV switches, modernization of some safety systems or replacement of electrical switchboards. The project of seismic reinforcement of selected technological and construction objects continued as well. Similar outage takes place once every eight years.
Before the unit was put into operation, tightness tests of the containment and pressure strength tests of the primary circuit were successfully carried out.
The work was attended by hundreds of power plant employees of Mochovce and Bohunice NPPs, as well as over 700 contractors. All works were accomplished without a single work accident.
A short overhaul of the Unit 4 will start tonight, and will be followed by overhaul of the Bohunice V2 NPP Unit 3. The plano of outages for 2017 will be completed in autumn by the Unit 2 of Mochovce NPP.
