Refuelling overhaul at Mochovce NPP Unit 1 completed
Slovenske elektrarne, an Enel Group Company, completed today the general overhaul of the Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 by synchronising the first generator to the grid. This medium-term outage was the first within the 2015 plan of scheduled overhauls of Slovenské elektrárne nuclear plants.
Outage and repairs are standard parts of the life-cycle of every nuclear power plant and they are carried out according to a long-term scheduling process.
This general overhaul included complete removal of fuel from the reactor and its partial drainage to weld a new pipeline of emergency reactor cooling to be activated in case of severe accident. This is one of the measures aimed at preventing severe accidents to be completed by the end of this year.
Maintenance works were followed by pressure test on the primary circuit and all steam generators that demonstrated tightness of the entire primary circuit and readiness for operation.
