The waste produced in Slovenské elektrárne is liquidated either at its own disposal sites and sludge beds, or transported to disposal sites of other organisations on a contractual basis, or recycled by either contractual partners or at its own sites.
The decrease in the production of other waste in 2018 compared to 2017 was influenced mainly by the reduced production of technological waste from combustion processes in thermal power plants. The launch of the flue gas denitrification technology (SNCR) on units B1,2 at Nováky thermal power plant affected the quality of by-products (ash and slag) with residual ammonia content, which caused a significant decrease in consumer interest since 2015 and these wastes had to be deposited on sludge-bed as a waste.
Part of the technological waste - ash, slag, energogypsum in Nováky TPP and sludge from chemical treatment of water in Bohunice NPP, which meet the conditions of the Waste Act, are by-products, not waste.
By-products taken by external customers are mainly used for:
- production of construction products (concrete, cement, aerated concrete, brick products),
- filling out extracted mining areas,
- production of plasterboard (gypsum, cement),
- regulation of soil acidity.
In addition to abovementioned by-products, mainly iron scrap, scrap from non-ferrous metals, paper, construction waste, waste oils, lead and nickel-cadmium batteries are recovered.
